Description
Thermodynamics: Fundamentals and applications is a 2005 text for a first postgraduate course in Chemical Engineering. The focus is on macroscopic thermodynamics; Discussions about modeling and molecular situations are integrated at all times. This text supports the knowledge that; although thermodynamics describes natural phenomena; these descriptions are the product of creative and systematic minds. Nature develops without reference to the human concepts of energy; entropy or transience. Natural complexity can be organized and studied through thermodynamic methodology. The power of thermodynamics can be used with advantage if the fundamentals are understood. The emphasis of this text is on the fundamentals rather than modeling. Knowledge of the basics will improve the ability to combine them with models by applying thermodynamics to practical situations.
