The eighth edition of “Shigley’s Mechanical Engineering Design” maintains the basic approaches that have made this book the standard in machine design for over 40 years. At the same time it combines the straightforward focus on fundamentals instructors have come to expect with a modern emphasis on design and new applications. Overall coverage of basic concepts are clear and concise so that readers can easily navigate key topics.
Problem sets have been improved, with new problems added to help students progressively work through them. The book has included ARIS, which will have algorithmic problems. The new co-author, Keith Nisbett has been brought on to this project and has added a key case study on power transmission. All standards have been updated, which will make this the most current text!
The 8th edition of “Shigley’s Mechanical Engineering Design” features a major new case study developed to help illuminate the complexities of shafts and axles. It includes new Finite Elements Chapter – an important modern topic. Parts I and II have been streamlined to improve readability and simplify the presentation without sacrificing content. Part III has been updated to reflect current standards, making this the most current book out in the market in terms of standards.
